Sekem farm visit
SEKEM Farm was founded around 1979 by Dr. Abouleish when he launched a project synthesizing Islam and anthroposophy. He purchased a plot of land in the desert which bordered farmland on the Nile valley. The original goal was to develop the land and improve crop yields using biodynamic methods. They planted trees encircling the seventy hectares of land and built traditional adobe houses. Soon after they invited local Bedouin who already lived in the area to work the land. Local Egyptian buffalo were brought in allowing them to produce milk products which they sold along with produce from the farm.
